Too much black

I have come to the realisation that I have too much black (and grey) in my wardrobe.  Maybe it’s a sickness or simply a lack of choice here in Australia, particularly in corporate clothing.

I went shopping last weekend and I bought a black pair of shoes, a black pair of trousers and a black pair of earrings.  At least I bought a colourful scarf from Alannah Hill – that woman is not afraid of colour.

I do love a good mix of black and white (in the home and in fashion), but I have decided that I am going to attempt to make an effort to add more colour to my wardrobe.  I am a little too pale to wear all the black and grey that I do anyway.  I look much better in bright colours – purple, pink, red, blue and green.

For inspiration, here are some bright outfits that I am loving right now.

Femme Fatale from Neiman Marcus

I was browsing the Neiman Marcus website last night and discovered the ‘Femme Fatale’ collection of furniture and homewares.

Apparently this style is a trend for the coming Fall 2010 season.  Perfect if (like me) you enjoy a little over-the-top glamour.

Here are some of my favourite pieces.

New shoes and fabric shopping

It was great to get out of the house this weekend, after spending the last three rugged up on the sofa.

On Saturday I went to The Fabric Store in Surry Hills.  Here is my loot.

I intend to have the black and white chevron wool made into a cropped jacket.  I also bought a button to go with it from ‘Buttons’ in Newtown.

Before heading home I stopped in at Birkenhead Point for some groceries and a little retail therapy.

I bought this great pair of shoes from Mimco (as well as a cute pair of earrings).

I also bought a pair of high-waisted black trousers and a colourful silk scarf from Alannah Hill.

We finished off Saturday having dinner with friends at a local Japanese restaurant.

On Sunday it was back to renovating our home.  We started installing the skirting boards upstairs.

A colourful space

I just discovered this quirky Parisian loft in the archives of Marie Claire Maison.  The black and white base with pops of colour really appeals to me and I especially love the surprise of the hot pink sunken sink.

Fuschia accessories

Fuschia is such a great colour to liven up a room.  Just the smallest amount of this high-energy colour can add so much to a space.

Sweet balcony garden

This is just a quick post to share a sweet little balcony garden that was sitting in my inbox this morning.  The apartment is for sale in Stockholm, Sweden (link here).

The 70s are coming back

I have been following the Fall 2010 fashion campaigns on Fashion Gone Rogue and I see 70s inspiration everywhere in the new season previews.

I am loving the high-waisted pants and skirts, pussy-bow blouses, capes and headscarves.  This is my kind on fashion.  It has me looking forward to our Autumn 2011, which is a big deal given that I have been whining incessantly about wanting Summer to come back.

Here are some of my favourite images so far:

Feeling low

I am feeling a little low.  I have been sick for the past three weeks, so work is building up in the office and our home renovation isn’t going as quickly or smoothly as planned.

With little energy to do much else, I have been spending a lot of time in bed or on the sofa with my laptop and interior design magazines, so I thought it appropriate to share bedrooms and living spaces that have inspired me this week.

I love this first bedroom.  The mix of dark floors white walls and mainly black and white furnishings with just a hint of colour is exactly what I have envisioned for our bedroom.  We also have a shelf above where our bed will be placed.

Here’s another bedroom with dark floors, white walls and a hint of colour.

I love the moodiness of all the grey in the bedroom below and again just a hint of colour among all the black, white and neutral.

This all white bedroom is so dreamy.

And a couple of living rooms with grey sofas, grey rugs and a hint of colour in the accessories.  This is the way I plan to decorate because I definitely go through phases with colours.
